Healing Ourselves to Heal Others – A Mindful Connect with Communities
Medicine begins to ease suffering and serve others. Yet the daily weight of deadlines, responsibility, and relentless pace can quietly hollow out even the most dedicated caregiver. Recognition and achievement rarely fill that inner void — one can be surrounded by patients, colleagues, and family, and still feel a quiet solitude within.
With this understanding, a two-hour mindful session was facilitated with the PhD scholars, students, and faculty of the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi — marking a new national-level initiative to nurture the wellbeing of Public Health Providers themselves before they care for others.
The session wove together four essentials: an introduction to mindfulness, a safe and anonymous space to voice personal vulnerabilities, a reflective exercise on role models, and a module on living simply . It served as a gentle pause — an invitation to reconnect with the self, so that connection with the communities we serve becomes deeper and more genuine.
Participants warmly welcomed the concept, individually expressing gratitude for the experience and the compassionate way it was facilitated.
