Since Dec, 12, 2023 SOHAMINDIA’s Chief Executive Dr. Daman Ahuja has been appointed as the Member of the Institutional Ethics Committee of NIHFW.

He has been attending the committees meeting regularly and contributing from his field knowledge of Public Health as a Community Engagement Expert. He has also contributed on the Chapter of Unit 1- Health promotion in different settings for the Distance Learning Cell of NIHFW for Postgraduate Diploma Students.

Life Skill Education Programme

Members of the Team at SOHAMINDIA has been in UNICEF and had worked extensively in Uttar Pradesh along with Director of Higher Secondary Education, State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), State AIDS Control Organization, District Institute of Education and Training (DIETs) and trained various District Education Officers, Senior PGTs with the curriculum prepared by NACO in consonance with NCERT in 2005. Later on the team member of SOHAMINDIA has participated as the National Curriculum Design Committee of Ayushmaan Bharat, Health and Wellness programme of NCERT. SOHAMINDIA has collaborated extensively with the Red Ribbon Clubs of the State AIDS Control Society in Himachal Pradesh to conduct sessions focused on Life Skills Education Programme.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), life skills education plays a crucial role in HIV prevention by empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Through these sessions, SOHAMINDIA has introduced mindfulness as a valuable tool for enhancing coping skills, reducing stigma, and promoting holistic well-being among young adults in Himachal Pradesh.

National HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaigns

Members of the SOHAMINDIA team have been part of the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) in conceiving, planning, and running the Red Ribbon Express train across the country. It was a mass media campaign involving 10 central ministries, international donors and development partners, and IEC collaborators to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS across the country. The team has pan-India exposure in terms of field planning, arranging, collaborating,
and executing the project.
Members of SOHAMINDIA have experience in conceiving, planning, and executing folk media, mid-media, and mass media campaigns around HIV/AIDS through the National Song and Drama Division and Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) programs across the country.

SOHAMINDIA has pioneered the use of Mindfulness as a foundational practice in all its development initiatives, recognizing its profound impact on overcoming stress, insomnia, psychological disorders, depression, and various other health challenges. Research studies from institutions such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have shown that regular mindfulness practice can significantly reduce stress levels, improve sleep quality, and enhance overall mental well-being.

Innovations in Family Planning Projects

The SOHAMINDIA team is well-experienced in contributing to innovations in Family Planning programs and strengthening the Health System in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and in select districts of
the country. The team has learned innovative approaches to involving religious leaders,
Panchayati Raj Institutions, Anganwadi Workers, District Urban Development Agency (DUDA), Ration Depot holders, and Paan Shops as change agents in convincing communities to adopt
family planning methods. The team has also learned about the impact of infection prevention practices, No-Scalpel Vasectomy, and Laparoscopy methods of Family Planning. Contributing to system strengthening in terms of infrastructure, technical know-how, and providing the latest instruments in hospitals can have a long-lasting impact on providing quality health services to
communities.

School AIDS Education Programme (SAEP)

SOHAMINDIA team has experience in providing consultancy services to various local and national organizations for implementing School AIDS Education Programs. Data from UNAIDS shows that comprehensive sexuality education, including information about HIV/AIDS prevention, is essential for reducing new infections among young people. SOHAMINDIA's participation in workshops across the country has contributed to raising awareness and promoting effective HIV/AIDS education strategies.

SOHAMINDIA has conducted mindfulness sessions with HIV-positive individuals networks to support them in developing coping skills related to depression, stigma, physical health, and social challenges.

Studies published in the Journal of the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care highlight the benefits of mindfulness in improving mental health outcomes and quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS.

During its tenure at PGIMER, Chandigarh, SOHAMINDIA’s founder introduced sessions on Self-Management and the Role of Mindfulness at the State Training and Resource Centre for Targeted Intervention Project (TI projects of NACO) personnel from Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), self- management strategies are essential for improving health outcomes and reducing the impact of chronic diseases like HIV/AIDS. SOHAMINDIA emphasis on self-awareness through mindfulness sessions in training programs aligns with global efforts to address HIV/AIDS by empowering individuals with knowledge and skills for self-care and prevention.

ASHA Programme with National Health Mission

Members of SOHAMINDIA are experienced in leading the ASHA Programme in the State of Haryana. From learning the skills of ASHA trainings on HBPNC (Home Based Postnatal Care) module 6-7 from the Gadchiroli (Maharashtra) based SEARCH organization, innovated by Dr. Rani and Abhay Bang, to executing it in the State of Haryana, the experience provided ample exposure to the organization in planning different programmes with ASHAs.

Members of the team are well versed in the contributions ASHAs are making in the country as well as the challenges and practices in Maternal and Child Health.

Library Centers of READ-INDIA

As an Public Health Expert SOHAMINDIA’s Team member has taken several sessions on adolescent issues with READ-INDIA’s Library cum Vocational Training Centre at Jewar (Uttar Pradesh), Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Dwarka ( Delhi) and Gurugram.  The students of Vocational Training cum Library Centres were mentored on topics like Growing Up, Mental Health, Drug Abuse, Violence, Gender Equality, Nutrition, Family Planning, Value System, Social Media handling, HIV/AIDS, Menstrual Hygiene, RTI/STI, Reproductive and Child Health, Breastfeeding and Dental care. Around 220 Students around these centers were benefitted from these centers.

Monitoring and Evaluation

As part of the Common Review Mission, Government of India, the Chief Executive of SOHAMINDIA has participated in 6 consecutive years between 2014-2020. The team consisted of a mix of Government Officers, NGOs, Development Partners and Donors. The purpose of the visit was to see the execution of National Health Mission Programme, learn from the best practices and support for the gaps as such.
